Venue 21: Ellerton
Ceramics
Porcelain vases, bowls and tall standing forms thrown on the wheel, decorated with textural surfaces. Also hand built sculptures featuring multiple tubular forms joined to represent root systems.
Jill makes wheel thrown bowls, vases and sculptural forms highlighting the beautiful whiteness, smoothness and translucency of porcelain. Decoration focusses on texture: thickly applied slip creating delicate edges and masses of bored through holes with ridged surfaces. Grounded sculptures are inspired by root systems. Multiple hand built tubular forms anchor to the ground in order to support sideshoots and an organic upward growth. White or black glazing emphasises the positive shapes and the negative spaces they create in between.
